Peace of Mind for My Legal Case
Designing a user-centered app that simplifies legal case tracking, answers critical client questions, and brings peace of mind through clarity and thoughtful design. Built on real user insights, the concept focuses on transparency, guidance, and a more approachable legal experience.
Gansel Rechtsanwälte set out to make the legal process more transparent and accessible for their clients through a mobile app. I was brought on to develop the UX concept, conduct user research, and design a prototype that would address the two most pressing client concerns: "What’s the status of my case?" and "Do I need to do anything?" The result was a research-backed, approachable app experience—supported by thoughtful UI design, clear communication flows, and playful illustrations.
Defining the Core Challenge
Legal cases can be confusing and slow-moving—leaving clients unsure of what's happening and whether they need to act. Our challenge was to design an app that streamlined legal communication, reduced uncertainty, and gave users a sense of control. The app needed to clarify the status of a case and clearly show whether any user action was required, all while keeping the tone approachable and stress-free.
Understanding the User Perspective
To ground our concept in real user needs, i planned and conducted qualitative interviews with clients. These revealed a strong desire for clarity and reassurance above all else. Two recurring questions shaped the entire user journey:
- "What is the current status of my case?"
- "Do I need to do anything right now?"
This feedback helped us define the core structure of the app and prioritize intuitive flows over dense legal language. From here, I mapped the user journey and created a semi-designed Axure prototype to align with stakeholders and test interaction ideas early on.
Designing the Experience
To bring the concept to life, I worked closely with both developers and a professional illustrator. The app interface was designed with a calm, minimal layout supported by playful illustrations—striking a balance between professionalism and approachability.
- Developed the core UI components and logic flows
- Built a semi-styled interactive prototype in Axure
- Collaborated with developers to integrate and adapt the Tailwind framework
- Created a base flow for an Intercom chatbot within the app for common questions and async support
Outcome
The result was a prototype that helped Gansel Rechtsanwälte clearly communicate case progress while reducing the stress and confusion often associated with legal processes. The visual design made the app feel friendly, clear, and reliable, while the underlying UX was built around genuine client needs.
