Events Near Me

A mobile app concept for spontaneous, local activity discovery based on time, location, and weather. This concept addresses the fragmented experience of finding something fun to do in the moment—by bringing together real-time event data, walkability, and weather awareness into one simple interface.

Identifying the Problem

Spontaneous plans are often derailed by the time it takes to search across different platforms for local events. Especially when already out and about, mobile research becomes tedious—especially if plans need to change due to weather or time constraints. Most existing event apps are not optimized for proximity, real-time relevance, or walkable spontaneity.

The Idea

This is a mobile app concept that shows activities and events within walking distance, matched to your current location, preferences, and real-time weather. Whether it’s a concert in half an hour, a pop-up market, or a free workshop with last-minute spots—Pivot helps users make quick, enjoyable decisions without endless scrolling.

Target Audience

The app is designed for:

  • Urban dwellers looking for spontaneous micro-events or casual outings
  • Tourists who want a local, real-time lens on the city
  • Cultural explorers who enjoy discovering things nearby, now

Defining the MVP

The first version of Pivot should:

  • Pull in data from at least one major event source (e.g., gratis-in-berlin)
  • Display relevant events within a 500m radius of the current location
  • Include basic filters for time, type, and weather-fit
  • Feature a detail view with time, location, and a link to the original source
  • This MVP explores how small, thoughtful constraints—like walkability or weather—can improve decision-making and streamline the user’s path to action.

Privacy & Security Considerations

As this app would access real-time location data, I considered the privacy implications—especially regarding who can see which events are “nearby.” Privacy-focused defaults (e.g. local-only data processing, no persistent location tracking, private browsing mode) should be part of the design strategy from the start.
